  1. Wow. What a great site that brings back so many memories. I lived in Koppel, Pa until I was nearly 12 years old. I recognize so many of these shots. Ann’s Consignments is in the old Pavalovic’s Grocery store. I was friends with her son and we went to Koppel School Elementary together. Do you have any shots of the old school? I very vividly remember the police station with its 6pm whistle every day. I lived on 3rd Ave right near it. The old steel mill…wow…what memories. My father worked in the steel mills for 20 years before they shut down. I believe he worked at Wallace Run in Beaver Falls. I can’t wait to see more.

  2. My sister who still lives in Koppel told me about this site. I moved away in March 1986 when I joined the military. I go back and visit a few times a year. Koppel hasn’t changed much over the years. One of the pictures that I saw on here was of the building that I grew up in. My father had a grocery store on fourth avenue before he closed it.

  3. Just a few random memories: Long before it was Ann’s Consignment or even the grocery store, it was a roller rink called, “the Flying Saucer.” Remember Betty Baney’s dance studio? Well somewhere in my family is an 8mm film of her dancing…. when she was about 9 years old! Anybody remember the one room schoolhouse? I was too young to go there but my two oldest sisters did. Anybody remember the train wreck at about Richard Street in the 1970s?

  4. I remember the skating rink, and going there with my Dad , who was a fantastic skater! As for the 1 room schoolhouse, if there was one, it was before my school days. I remember the old Koppel elementary school where I attended part of 1st grade in 1961, then we were moved to the brand new school at the other end of 2nd Ave. It was a big old brick building, with white buildings behind, that were also classrooms. Len, your sister Ruth was in my class. Our 1st grade teacher was Mrs Mansfield.

  5. Len the train wreck was almost in front of my house one 4th ave, it ended right in front of Zurinski’s house, we had so many cases of cereal that was taken from the wreck, i still cannot eat sugar pops. And Mrs Mansfield was my 1st grade teacher, and don’t forget about mrs Grogg, I think she was 3rd or 4th grade…(reposted from 6/20/2014)

  6. I can remember my Grandfather lived in Koppel , and it here was a church and catholic school down , I remember him taking me to one of the bars and getting a pop and a big candy bar , eventually I ended up working at the B&W steelmill that looked right at where he lived hid neighbor had a small machine shop behind their house
