Brittain School - New Beaver Boro PA

Text Coming Soon!

I’m not sure when it first opened, but the one-room Brittain School served the students of Big Beaver Township (later New Beaver Borough) in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. The New Castle News of March 11, 1891, reported, “The Brittain school of over 30 pupils has dwindled to less than a dozen owing to the measles in almost every family.” The school was erected on property owned by the Brittain family, located along modern-day Britton School Road. Helen Cosgrove was the teacher during the 1936-37 school year. The school closed soon after – in the early 1940’s at the latest. (c1905) Full Size
