Eicholtz' Clover Farm Store - Ellwood City PA

Text Coming Soon!

Beginning in the mid-1920’s Stuart E. “Stu” Eicholz (1896-1936) and his wife Martha (Huffman) Eicholtz (1897-1986) operated this grocery store, which became part of Clover Farms Stores chain, in the Ewing Park section of Ellwood City. I believe it was located near the Ewing Park Bridge at #304 Sims Street. There were a handful of these stores in the county, including about five in Ellwood City alone. Stu was a veteran of U.S. Army service during World War I. Stu and Martha had two children together named John and Marilyn. John served with the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Stu, at the age of forty, died unexpectedly during an operation for appendicitis in early May 1936. He was buried with full military honors at Locust Grove Cemetery. The former Eicholtz’ store, located at the north end of the Ewing Park Bridge, is now home to an office affiliated with the Erie Insurance Group. (Apr 2014) Full Size
