Harbor United Presbyterian Church - Harbor PA

Text Coming Soon!

The Harbor United Presbyterian Church, located near the thriving shipping point of Western Reserve Harbor (or simply “Harbor”), was founded in 1852. It was a spin-off from the Shenango United Presbyterian Church in Neshannock Township. A house of worship (and a church cemetery) was soon erected to the north on land leased from the McFate family. The church was later dismantled in 1919 and rebuilt two miles south within the little village of Harbor. In August 1952 the congregation, which often shared pastors with other churches, celebrated its 100th anniversary. Due to dwindling attendance the church was closed in 2005. For many years the church shared a pastor with the Mahoning United Presbyterian Church near Hillsville. In October 1905 that agreement was dissolved and the Harbor Church was left without a regular pastor for some time. Among the temporary pastors was the Reverend Ira F. Leeper (1874-1935) of the Center United Presbyterian Church. (1906) (Photo courtesy of Sherry Slater) Full Size

When the Harbor United Presbyterian Church was dismantled and relocated in 1919 the Sunday services were temporarily held in the Harbor School. (c1960) Full Size

The Harbor United Presbyterian Church was closed for good in 2005. The building was subsequently used by the All Faith Tabernacle of God for a few years at least. (Aug 2013) Full Size

Comments

  1. Do you know where The Harbor United Presbyterian Church cemetery is located? Since it was moved off of it’s original site was it preserved or a list of internments?

    Thanks

  2. (EDITOR’S NOTE) Joan, the cemetery is located north of the Harbor area on Garner Rd – just north where Matthews Rd splits off to the west. I have a page for the cemetery on this website with some photos and info. Jeff
