On September 9, 2009, I attended the funeral for my uncle Jimmy Bales in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, it was announced that there would be no formal gravesite service and only a handful of folks followed his hearse to Oak Park Cemetery in New Castle. At Oak Park my uncle Jimmy was buried next to his wife Shirley (Knight) Bales. After the small group of family and friends left the gravesite I remained behind with my cousin Carrie Gierlach to watch the workers complete the burial. They told us about how a few nights prior some vandals had broke into the cemetery truck, driven it over a hill on the corner of the property, and set in on fire. Carrie and I sought out the truck and took the photos that you see below.
