The 1940 Beaver Falls Browns, led by manager Frank Oceak, played in the minor league Class D Pennsylvania State Association. They finished the season in third place with a 52-56 record. They knocked the first place Johnstown Johnnies out of the playoffs 3 games to 1, but were swept 3-0 by the powerhouse Butler Yankees in the finals. Oceak (kneeling – second from right end) was later a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates coaching staff under skipper Danny Murtaugh that won the 1960 and 1971 World Championships. Full Size

  1. There is no photo, but my father told me about the Beaver Falls Elks, who were a great independent team in the 1920s. Because of the blue laws, on Sunday the team played in Youngstown, Ohio where Sunday ball was permitted.
