In about 1837 a group of German Lutherans were organized in Wurtemburg by the Reverend Johan Schweitzerbarth, a young Lutheran minister who immigrated from Germany in 1819 and helped establish numerous churches in western Pennsylvania. The congregation, later known as the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, was without a building of their own and met in private homes and schoolhouses for many years. I believe a traditionalist element of this congregation broke off and built a new church – located just to the north – known as the Mt. Hope Lutheran (or Zion Lutheran) Church in c1868. A small cemetery was also soon started to the rear of the cemetery on what is now Dutch Ridge Road. I believe the church, while being served by the Reverend Fred H. Daubenspeck (1866-1967), was closed down sometime in c1943 and was razed in later years. (Oct 2012)

I grew up just down the hill from this cemetary. I remember the Church that sat near Dutch Ridge Road. the Mt Hope one room school sat on the left side of the entrance to this cemetary. I can only remember the old foundation of that school.I knew a lot of the people buried here.
