 Philip “Phil” McQuiston, one of most well-known residents of Chewton, operated a grocery and dry goods store on Henry Street for many years. He helped organize – and served as a charter member of – the Chewton Christian Church in 1876. I found an article that indicates he sold his store in August 1892 to “Charles Coulter and Mr. Garway,” but I know McQuiston was still in business as late as 1906. Perhaps he opened a newer building? In 1902 he had one of several such stores in Chewton with others being operated by Simon Federkovich, Hanna Coulter, and Jacob Shallenberger. My mother is a McQuiston. Her father was from the David Ezra line of McQuistion’s that settled along the Connequenessing Creek after acquiring land from the local Indians. I wonder if this may be any relation?
