Some of the children of George & Margaret Hake, who lived on a fifty-acre farm along the banks of the Hickory Creek from 1925 to about 1937. The farm, on Million Drive off Route 18, was in an area between Willow Grove and another small rural community known as Sunnyside. From left its brother Robert Hake, Alvie Hake, possibly George “Freddie” Hake, and Dale Hake. This photo was taken during the tough times of the Great Depression. Father George Hake, who worked only sparingly on the railroad and also raised bees for the honey, was forced to sell the farm in about 1937. At that time the family moved on a home on Montgomery Avenue at the southern end of Mahoningtown. (c1934) Full Size |
