Glen Park was founded in c1891 by the Pittsburgh Company, and named by city founder Henry W. Hartman, along the southern bank of the Connoquenessing Creek in Ellwood City. It ran from the present location of the Fifth Street Bridge and extended towards the west. A graded road allowed access and visitors marveled at the natural beauty of the steep valley. I believe the park quickly fell into disuse as the numerous plants and factories along Glen Avenue/Commercial Avenue began dumping unsightly refuge over the hill. (c1893) Full Size |
