In 1959 the school district purchased the 109-acre Gleghorn farm just east of Bessemer and north of Mt. Jackson. Plans were slowly put into action and construction of the new high school began in 1962. The Mohawk Junior-Senior High School (shown above), which cost almost $3 million, was opened for classes in August 1963. The building was officially dedicated on Saturday, November 16, 1963. I was a member of that 1964 graduating class — the first to graduate from the new school building and have many fond memories of that school!
The basketball team won the championship that year — an exciting time for the whole class!

I graduated from Mohawk in 1976. I also have some fond memories of school. I was sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Benson. He was my favorite English teacher. A good thing too, since I was in his class three different years. Also fond memories of Mr. Lees.
