Alexander Neal (1844-1898), pictured here with his wife – the former Sarah J. Heasley (1865-1950), was a well known farmer who operated a 144-acre farm near New Bedford. The couple raised three children together. Mr. Neal died of complications of heart and liver issues in December 1898 when he was only fifty-four years old. The New Castle News of January 4, 1899, posted an obituary which read in part, “Friends and neighbors assembled at the old homestead, where he had lived for over half a century, to pay the last tribute of respect to a true friend, a kind neighbor, a meek unassuming christian, and one who was in every respect a man.” He was laid to rest in Hopewell Cemetery. His wife Sarah passed away at the age of eighty-four in August 1950 and was buried beside him. (c1890) Full Size
